Happy Valentine’s Day friends!! What are your plans for today? It’s a little weird that the holiday falls on a Wednesday this year; half the couples I know already celebrated last weekend, some are doing it tonight, some are waiting til next weekend. I’m spending the evening with some girlfriends. We’re going to make pizza and cookies and I bought a bunch of cute heart-shaped candy to enjoy while we watch a movie or two. Tomorrow I’ll be celebrating with my boyfriend, and to be honest, we’ll probably do something similar! Haha. So today I thought I’d share my ideas for a movie night in, no matter who you’re celebrating with.
If you’re single…
500 Days of Summer An up-and-down, back-and-forth love story about a girl who doesn’t believe in relationships and the guy who falls for her.
Say Anything Just a pure high school love story with a great song and my favorite ending of all time.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend If you’re going through a messy breakup or just need a reminder that women are bad-ass, this comedy delivers.
The Last Five Years A lesser-known gem from Anna Kendrick, this musical is about the rise and fall of a love story told from two perspectives. Great if you need a good cry.
When Harry Met Sally Classic rom-com. If you have a crush on a friend, indulge yourself!
Pretty Woman I have to admit, this is the only one on the list that I have not seen myself, but I still think it sounds like the perfect movie for tonight.
Like Crazy This is an indie film about a long-distance relationship that isn’t quite working out. I really loved the music in this movie.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life Not exactly a movie, but this 4-episode series would be perfect to binge-watch tonight. It reminds you of the importance of friendship and family love over romantic love.
For a night in with the girls…
Beauty and the Beast This is what my friends and I will be watching tonight. I haven’t seen the live action version yet, but I loooove Emma Watson, so I’m excited!
Valentine’s Day Too perfect for today! This is the spin-off of Love Actually, and while it’s definitely not as good, it’s great to half-watch and half-gossip with your friends.
Dirty Dancing Fun to watch with a group; you can all sing along to “I’ve Had the Time of my Life” at the end.
La La Land Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in a 1950s-esque magical land, need I say more?
Working Girl 1980s cheesiness for my working gals out there! Half inspiring, half hopeless romantic comedy.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days I’ve watched this one probably 20 times, and I never get tired of it.
Bridesmaids So fun to watch with a bunch of girlfriends!!
If you’re watching with your significant other…
The Overnight This comedy is about a neighborly dinner that turns into quite the party. Very weird, but a fun movie to watch as a couple.
Titanic As romantic as it is tragic.
Friends with Benefits I love this movie. Justin Timerlake and Mila Kunis have actual chemistry, and it’s just a great romantic comedy.
When We First Met New on Netflix, this romantic comedy reminds me a lot of Groundhog Day: a guy gets multiple attempts at meeting his dream girl in an attempt to get out of the friend-zone. I like this one because it will allow you two to reminisce about how you met and your (probably awkward) first date.
License to Wed Mandy Moore, John Krasinski, and Robin Williams! The perfect combination!
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind This is a sci-fi romantic comedy/drama about an estranged couple trying to erase their memories of each other. Perhaps an unconventional choice, but this article might convince you.
Hitch This movie is perfect for couples: there’s plenty of cute romantic gestures for you, plus lots of comedic bits from Will Smith for your guy.
Fun family flicks…
The Princess Bride An epic, funny love story that I truly think people of all ages love.
Moonrise Kingdom A magical, eccentric, coming-of-age love story.
Disney Movie Almost any Disney movie is great for Valentine’s Day!
Enchanted I might be 25 years old, but I still LOVE this movie. Everything about it is perfect: the story, the setting, the costumes, the music.
Shrek Everyone’s favorite ogre, who proved that looks don’t matter when it comes to the heart.
I would love to hear your Valentine’s Day plans in the comments section! Will you be watching any of these movies? Or are there other good ones that I missed?
