Do you have any fancy holiday parties on your schedule this year? They are my favorite– bring out the cocktail dresses, fancy skirts, and statement-making jewelry! It is so fun to get all dressed up, show off your fashionista side, and enjoy the festive vibes. But party-ready outfits present another challenge: how to stay warm? I am one of those people who is always cold. And I know from experience that it can be really difficult to be formally dressed, remain stylish, and stay warm… all at the same time.
So these are three tips for being fashionable AND warm for your next fancy holiday party. Tomorrow I’ll be publishing three more. By the time your holiday party rolls around, you’ll be totally covered! 🙂
Wear the right materials
Wool, cashmere, and velvet are winter staples. And for good reason: they last forever and keep you warm! Velvet especially is SO on-trend this year so it will be easy to find something you like. I recently went to a party where we mingled outside for a while before having a sit-down dinner inside. I wore a velvet blazer over a cami and it kept me perfectly comfortable both inside and outside.
- There are tons of other ways to wear velvet too: THIS pleated velvet skirt is absolutely gorgeous, THIS bow skirt is a great deal and so festive, I am obsessed with THIS studded velvet dress, and THIS velvet top has the prettiest lace detail. I rounded up more velvet pieces in the carousel below; click through to find something that works for your next party!
Add base layers
Layers are my best friend in the winter. It’s harder to add a base layer when you’re dressing up, but even little additions can help. Tights are probably my favorite way to add a warm base layer. Even sheer tights will add a little extra warmth, and they still look formal enough for a holiday party. You can also wear tights under a jumpsuit. Other base layers that add a little warmth are slips and bodysuits.
Add outer layers
You might not be able to wear them for the entire party, but don’t forget about your outer layers! Your outerwear can be just as stylish as your outfit. For holiday parties, I love seeing statement coats, capes, and scarves/pashminas.
- I like THIS classic military coat, THIS striped coat, THIS faux fur stole to wear with a coat or on its own. I also think a good pashmina should be in every girl’s closet!
I hope these three tips help! I know my biggest challenge in winter is getting dressed up and staying warm at the same time. So difficult! Check back TOMORROW for PART 2 of this post! I’ll be sharing three more tips (including one that actually has nothing to do with clothing!)…
As always, thanks for reading!
